MAX HAND SPEED

There are four parts to Diamond Kinetics’ overall Speed metric – Max Barrel Speed, Speed Efficiency, Forward Bat Speed and Max Hand Speed.

Max Hand Speed

THE SCIENCE BEHIND MAX HAND SPEED:

The maximum speed of your hands during the swing.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR BATTERS:

Faster hand speed, along with faster bat rotation, leads to faster barrel speed which affects the exit speed and distance a ball travels.

REAL WORLD SIMILARITY: When using a hammer and a nail, the quicker the hands are able to move in the act of striking the nail, the quicker the hammer will move toward the nail. The same is true as it applies to Max Hand Speed.

The speed the hands are traveling at the outset of the swing determine in part, the speed of the barrel of the bat. Thus, in order to maximize one’s Max Barrel Speed, it is necessary to maximize Max Hand Speed.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR COACHES:

Faster hand speed is one parameter that can lead to more home runs and harder hit balls thru the infield. A bat that is too heavy, though, will decrease hand speed.

DK TIP: Using a bat that is too heavy for the player will decrease their Max Hand Speed.
